  1. Getting Started with HP Copier

  3. The HP Copier software allows you to place an original page on your scanner and produce a copy of the page on your printer.

  5. >>> To make one or more copies
  6. 1  Place the original facedown on the scanner glass and slide it to the upper-right corner of the glass.  Or, place the originals faceup in an optional Automatic Document Feeder.
  7. 2  Select the correct choice for Original.  Select Text or Drawing if the original consists of just text or illustrations with only black and white areas.  Select Photo if the original is a real photograph.  Select Text and Photo if the page contains both text and pictures, such as a page clipped from a newspaper or magazine.
  8. 3  If desired, set the values for lighten or darken and reduce or enlarge.
  9. 4  Click the Copy button.  If desired, enter a value for copies.  
  10. 5  Click the OK button.  The copy is sent to the printer.
  11. 6  To close the HP Copier software, click the system Close box.

  14. It is critical that you choose an appropriate setting for the Original value because an incorrect setting may produce unexpected results.  For instance, a photograph copied as Text or Drawing can result in a copy that is too dark or too light.  The Text or Drawing selection produces a copy that contains only areas of black and white but no gray.  To correct the problem, you must select one of the other two settings for Original.  The problem cannot be corrected by lightening or darkening the copy.

If the original page has a shaded background, it affects the copy.  When using the Text or Drawing setting, the printed copy contains just black and white.  So a light background may appear as white, but a dark background prints as black, and the copy may appear as a solid black rectangle with a small white border.  When using the Photo setting, the background shading is visible in the copy.  When using the Text and Photo setting, the background is eliminated if it appears behind text.

If a copy does not print part of the original, it may be because your printer cannot print to the exact edge of the paper.  It leaves a margin of about one-quarter inch all around the page.  If the original has critical information on the edge of the page, reduce the copy so that information appears.
